Gentle Flow

Hula hoop Dance & Poi for Beginners
Hula hoop dance is a great form of exercise and uses the hula hoop around the waist, arms, legs and even feet! This class will offer moves for smooth transitions and will be at the beginner level but if you’d like someone to hula hoop with, come on! Poi is another Flow Art that will be mixed in and is usually done with two balls on a string. All equipment will be provided. Do not wear dangling or baggy clothing, and the more friction the better so try to avoid slick fabrics. Please dress for outdoors when weather allows. There will be some yoga with the hoop as well.

Kundalini Gong Bath
Join Amy Jinks for a special event focused on Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, along with the healing vibrational sounds of a Gong Bath.
Sunday May 10th, 2020
5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
@ Thrive Yoga & Massage
$25 Event Fee
The sound of a gong induces a state of spontaneous meditation and relaxation, which facilitates throughout the body. On a physical level, the vibrations eliminate tension, stimulate the circulation and glandular systems, and regenerate the nervous system. Listeners experience a sense of connectedness and peace as they are lulled into a lucid dream state; a state that allows our bodies to heal and rejuvenate. The sound waves gently clear blockages to restore inner harmony by letting go of stress and bad energies which no longer serve us.

Lay & Restore
Restorative yoga is done with postures lying over an oblong pillow, called a bolster. This is a great practice for someone with a long work day. Enjoy the benefits of yoga without feeling like you need a lot of energy to show up. Learning to rest and restore is part of the yoga practice.

Meditation and Movement
Recenter mid-week with a rejuvenating meditation. Class begins with gentle stretching followed by meditation, with time divided about evenly between the two but varying according to the “hump day” needs of those who “show up.”

Stretch & Destress
This stretch class is favoring Yin Yoga with some variation and gives a feeling of ease and lightness in the body. It involves variations of seated and supine poses typically held for 3 to 5 minutes or longer. Yin yoga accesses the deeper layers of fascia. The fascia is released and lengthened stimulating increased lubrication and flexibility of joints and connective tissues. As we age flexibility in the joints decreases and stretching is a wonderful way to maintain that flexibility.
This an internal, passive and cooling practice focused on connective tissue whereas styles of yoga such as vinyasa is an external, active and warming practice focused on the muscles. In order to achieve a balanced yoga practice we need to include both Yang and Yin aspects.

Yin Yoga Fusion
Yin Yoga exercises the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and the joints of the body. It increases range of motion, flexibility and creates tissues that are anti-fragile. Yang Yoga builds heat, increases strength and endurance of the muscles. The first half of class will be Yin to increase range of motion and flexibility, the second half will be Yang to increase muscular strength and endurance.

Yoga Nidra Sleep
Yoga nidra, a lying meditation. Each meditation is designed to balance brain waves and the nervous system while developing more body and emotional awareness and mental stability.
One morning’s visualization portion of the Yoga Nidra meditation envisioned the chakras, with a blossoming flower and sound to match. There is beautiful imagery each time, like water, hikes, loving interactions, and sometimes uncomfortable visions like cold or pain beforehand. It is amazing to see the power of your mind. You create your experience. Practice being in control of your mind rather than it controlling you. No one ever said it was easy. That’s why it’s called practice.

Yoga with Chairs
Chair Yoga is helpful for anyone who wants to exercise but has difficulty with floor postures (weight on hands and knees or repetitive movement on and off the floor) because of knee pain, extra weight, arthritis, etc. Modifications to poses can always be made for optimal experience and benefit of each individual. Chair Yoga begins with breath work and seated yoga postures in a chair. We then stand by the chair (or use the wall) to improve balance and strength in standing poses. Everyone has the options to stay in their chairs or lay on the floor for relaxation at the end. Bringing your own yoga mat, block and strap are optional but it will help you to perform to your greatest potential. This class is not limited to those who can stand. You are welcome to come in a wheelchair.
